Genioplasty can adjust the jaw, chin, and jawline contours. It can either be used to enhance and define the jaw or to reduce the size of the bone for a slimmer chin. In certain instances, surgery can be used to realign teeth and jaws that are not functioning properly. Typically, surgery involves the placement of an implant around a patient’s existing chin bone in order to augment the chin’s size and shape and achieve a more aesthetically pleasing facial balance.

Mandibular Jawbone Reduction

Mandibular Jawbone Reduction Surgery entails clipping or resecting the lower mandibular bone to create a more thin jawline, while simultaneously reducing jaw width and generating a sharper, more defined chin profile.

The jaw defines the overall form of the face, and some patients desire a more delicate, tapered jaw profile. Most people seek jawline (V-Line) surgery due to a short chin or excessively “masculine” jaw shape.

Mandibular Jawbone Reduction Surgery entails clipping or resecting the lower mandibular bone to create a more thin jawline, while simultaneously reducing jaw width and generating a sharper, more defined chin profile. When square jaw surgery is combined with chin reduction, excellent outcomes can be achieved.

Incisions are made between the gum and cheek to access the mandible during the surgery (jawbone). The incision is performed from the second molar to the canines within the mouth, minimizing scarring and leaving the jawline with a natural, feminine appearance.

Mandible Jaw surgery is indicated for patients:

  • With a wide jaw
  • With a square or angular chin
  • With slight asymmetries

Cheekbone Reduction

Cheekbone reduction diminishes the cheeks’ width, fullness, and prominence, by fat removal, shaving, and sculpting of the underlying cheekbone. It helps generate a feminine and delicate appearance.

A small, concealed incision point is used to produce geometric cuts on the side of the cheekbone in a “ladder shape.” Shaving, fat removal, and rotation of the bones are employed to generate a crisp, well-defined cheekbone that will elevate the facial profile.

Cheekbone Reduction is indicated for patients:

  • With bulging cheeks
  • With prominent, “chubby” cheeks
  • Having an angular face that may result in a more prominent facial profile.

Chin reduction

This surgical surgery seeks to diminish a prominent chin or jawline. For many individuals, a broad chin can result in an unbalanced profile, as many consider the ideal facial proportions to be proportionally balanced. Moreover, chin reduction can move the chin forward or backward to provide a more aesthetically acceptable side profile.

Chin Reduction is indicated for patients:

  • With a broad chin
  • With a protruding or recessed chin
  • With minor asymmetry
  • With a slightly long chin

Small and Receding Chin Correction

The majority of patients who undergo chin correction surgery do so because their chin is too small and creates an unbalanced side profile. In many cases, a receding chin is accentuated by an overbite, in which the lower jaw is underdeveloped. There are two solutions to this problem: implant insertion and sliding genioplasty. This procedure is usually required from patients:

  • With a deficiently developed chin
  • Those with an overbite caused by a receded chin
  • Those who wish to appear more masculine
