Cost Coverage

Medical costs vary widely from country to country and can be prohibitively expensive in certain destinations for travelers and expatriates. That is why Intercontinental Care advises its patients on how to obtain coverage or reimbursements for the medical services they receive abroad.

Various forms of partial and total cost coverage are available for our patients, including:

  • Health insurance. Policy holders of national and international insurances can receive coverage through their insurance company. Most of our healthcare Partners will accept direct payment which means that patients won’t have to pay for the treatment upfront. The amount covered and conditions depend on the type of policy that was bought by the patient.
  • European citizens. European Union countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom cover their citizens treatment in another one of the member countries or reimburse partially or totally the amount paid upfront. Prior authorisation from the citizen’s competent healthcare authority is necessary in order to apply and certain conditions must be meet.
  • Former Soviet Union citizens. Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan have state sponsored treatment programs abroad for their citizens. Conditions and coverage vary greatly but all require the treatment abroad to be unavailable in their countries.
  • Arab citizens. Bahrein, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have state sponsored treatment programs abroad for their citizens. Please check the dedicated pages to find the  conditions for obtaining coverage in you country.
  • Charities. Private institutions can also help patients obtain coverage for their treatment abroad, especially children.
